History of Elgin Local 439

The following is an excerpt from the Fiery Struggle, which is available through the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois.

Elgin fire fighters took another action in 1935, beside filing suit. They organized a union. So did fire fighters in Freeport, Bloomington, Maywood, Jacksonville and Rockford. Those new locals joined with the existing ones to form the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) in 1935.
