  • Elgin Fire Department to test for new hires
The current firefighter eligibility list will expire on November 26, 2009 and the development of a new eligibility list takes approximately 4-5 months. I have been notified by HR that the announcement for the application for the eligibility list will be sometime next week. If you know of anyone that is interested, the link below will allow them to sign up for an email notification for when the job announcement is posted.

Please pass this on to any interested  persons or organizations that you are aware of. There will be two changes to the testing process for this eligibility list. First, the written test will be replaced by a video based test that will add social interaction scenarios similar to what is found living and working at the fire stations. The second change is that the top 60 scores from the video based testing will have a defined timeframe to secure a valid CPAT card to be able to move on in the testing process. In the past the City of Elgin has made the arrangements for the CPAT testing.

Please have any interested candidates contact Human Resources at 847-931-6076 with any questions.

  • Elgin Association of Firefighters local 439 donates $2000.00 worth of food to restock the dwindling supplies at the Elgin Community Crisis Centers food bank.  At our last general membership meeting Local 439 members voted to help a local food pantry. It is apparent to our members that the community is still in need as high unemployment takes its toll on our community. This is the second large donation of the year with the last one going to the salvation Amy around Christmas. The food was delivered on our 54 American LaFrance and was driven by museum member Bob O’Conner. Thanks to all who made this possible. Anyone wanting to donate may call Brother Bedard at 847-946-3380 he will arrange for a pick up and delivery of your generous donation.
